Development Reflection Module 2

alt text

The emulations package for Reflection is still  in Beta test at Phoenix Chess Systems. We will release all emulations available on Revelation II, with the exception of the Tasc Emulations (no piece recognition available) and the Novag Robot Adversary. This results in a nice addition to the 5, initially released for Reflection. Costs : 125 Euro.

We have done some benchmarking, indicated are the MIPS values when the Reflection is running at 1.824Ghz single CPU.

MN = Mephisto Montreux => 22 MIPS
LO = Mephisto London => 360 MIPS
GL = Mephisto Glasgow => 349 MIPS
M5 = Mephisto MMV => 116 MIPS

Revelation II anniversary edition chessboard

Revelation II Anniversary Edition chess board is a complete chess system based upon the first Revelation chess board. It is based upon a powerful IMX7D dual core processor and produces a chess rating of over 3000 ELO using the world champion programs Komodo, Shredder, Hiarcs and Stockfish.

Pricing for the Revelation II with the Timeless Piece Set including the carrying bag is 2.849 Euro (including 21% VAT) and the 2019 Full Emulation pricing is available at 699 Euro (including 21% VAT).

If you wish to change the Piece Set (see pictures below) :Add 20 Euro for the Classic, 50 Euro for the Royal , 100 Euro for the Ebony and 200 Euro for the FIDE Piece Set. If you want extra weighted pieces, please add an additional 100 Euro to the price.

The systems primary function is to play against modern age top chess programs. These programs combined with the processing power aboard this systems gives unprecedented chess playing quality. But if you like you can also set the engines to play at levels starting from 1500 Elo. Included are also the emulations of the chess computers back in the 80’s and 90’s in which chess play against dedicated chess computers was at its peak. Remember the great Dutch Aegon tournaments?

The historic emulation function is a combined concept using emulation and the classical world champion modules for the Mephisto Series, and as I may say a very successful one. The emulation will run almost at twice the speed as the original emulations, so in many cases they will run faster in comparison to the World Champion Editions from the eighties (remember the Tournament machines with the Motorola 68030 at 36 Mhz and 2MB Hash?). These emulations are great for the moderate chess players, and in combination with the current engines will give a broad range of chess playing experience to the customers. For the Emulations we have some extra good news. Phoenix Chess Systems has also reached an agreement with Ed Schröder and Johan de Koning, so not only the Richard Lang Emulations will be included but also the Ed Schröder Emulations an de Koning Emulations.

The Revelation can operate as a DGT Bluetooth E-Board and even displays information, normally on the DGT XL clock, on the Revelation II display in this modus.

The highlights for the system are:

– Included is a carrying bag for the complete system, so the Chess Board is wel protected, and can be transported without risk;
– Fully standalone Chess Board, equipped with onboard embedded IMX7D dual core high performance processor to facilitate the onboard chess engines;
– The IMX7D is a modern processor and runs at 1,0 Ghz in dual core;
– The implementation of this IMX7D has a 32 bit wide databus, and a large cpu cache to ensure that the engines will run at their best performance;
– 1GB of DDR3 Ram ensures enough memory for large Hash tables;
– 4 Gigabyte of Flash memory, so there is plenty of storage to upgrade with additional Chess Engines as they become available;
– ELO levels can be adjusted to play at your level (depending on engine settings);
– The Chess Board is multi chess engine, so you can select from a number of Chess Engines;
– The Chess Board will contain three commercial engines at delivery, but can be upgraded with more Chess Engines;
– Included are Komodo, Hiarcs and Shredder to ensure you have top performing Chess Engines;
– As a courtesy of some well-known programmers Fruit, Toga, and over 15+ shareware engines are also included;
– The Chess Board is using the great Piece Recognition Technology from DGT, so analyzing and setting up chess positions are simple as that;
– The Chess Board is based upon the Revelation I Chess Board design, but now has slightly separated stands and they will be in black finish, resulting in a classic modern look;
– A larger display with double resolution, based upon the newest OLED technology, gives detailed information over the current chess game;
– The oled display as well as the led technology around the chess fields to indicate the moves are all made up from a gentle and elegant green lighting;
– All focus is upon beauty and passion for the chess game, so despite all electronics onboard, you will have a fine, wooden chess board of high quality with great pieces;
– For PC communication Bluetooth is available. This way you can upgrade with newest firmware when available or even newer Chess Engines, and upgrades on existing Chess Engines.
– As a bonus the UCI server is added so you can also play chess engines on your PC as if they are installed on the Revelation II. This software is added free of charge. A good reliable bluetooth up and downlink is necessary to use this feature.

We want to highlight the usage for a OLED display, which is a state of the art method of displaying information. It is green, and matches the led signalling on the board.

The complete board, measuring 60 * 58 cm.
The pieces from DGT are just beautiful. And you may select all available sets.
Simple control for the system, but all necessary functions available.
The front plate, black anodized and golden lettering, quality of the highest levels.
The OLED display gives crisp and detailed information.
The display is readable from all angles and does not disturb your good game of chess.

Emulations for Revelation II / AE Chess Boards

The Emulator is a combined concept using emulation and the classical world champion & top modules for the Mephisto Series and developed for the first series Module Sets and Chess Board. During the years more emulation were added resulting in the current 2019 Full Edition.

It contains all existing Richard Lang Module Sets programs based upon the 68000 processor and the Polgar, MMIV, MMV and Rebel programs based upon the 6502 processor from Ed Schröder. Also the emulations from all programs in the popular Tasc systems are included (Ed Schröder and Johand de Koning). The Glasgow, Super Expert B and C and Diablo programs are also emulated (however due to copyrights on the original software these are not included). The same will apply to the future Novag Robot Adversary and the Fidelity V2. The speeds of emulation vary from a factor 1 to 10 times faster than the original speeds, giving the programs higher ELO ratings. Tasc Emulations + Risc2500 and Montreux are running slower at about 1/2 to 1/3 times slower. The Emulations are now available to the Phoenix Chess Systems customers and available for the Revelation II Board System.

You can buy the Emulation Software for 699 Euro including VAT. For this you acquire the emulation, and the Richard Lang license for the Amsterdam, Dallas, Roma, Almeria, Portorose, Lyon, Vancouver and London programs including the needed licenses from Richard Lang. And also the Ed Schröder license for the Polgar, MMIV, MMV and Rebel programs including the needed licenses from Ed Schröder. Also included are the Tasc King and Schröder programs plus the Montreux and Risc2500. For the Novag Robot Adversary, the Fidelity V2, Glasgow, Super Expert B and C and Diablo programs, if you own the chess computers, you can also obtain these emulations.

To give an indication of what the emulation can do let’s look through some screens available under the software. The opening screen says it all. Here you select which program you wish to emulate.

On the opening screen you can select with the cursor keys the program to start. As an example is in the next screen the Vancouver emulation shown. You see the original display and the corresponding keys.
With the general key OFF, you switch off the module set. SND switches sound on and off. With SEL you can select a new program to emulate. RES, resets the current program. With SAV you can save the current state of the Vancouver alike emulations (This is not available for the Amsterdam alike, because the original module could not hold the current state).
After selecting the London program the emulation offers you the ‘KEY’ option. See the display above. When you select this you can use the Revelation II keys (6, like the Vancouver layout) to control the London program directly. This also applies for the Almeria, Portorose, Lyon and Vancouver emulations. In this way you can control the Vancouver or other Vancouver alike programs.
But next to these emulations, you can also opt for the Amsterdam, Dallas or Roma programs. Above the Roma is displayed. Because the keyboard layout is different from a Mephisto London layout, here the true layout is given on the OLED display. Because now the physical keyboard layout differs from the emulated keyboards, you can use the cursor keys to go to the key you would like to press. By pressing the physical key ‘ENT’ you virtually press the key you selected with the cursor keys. In the example above you see the ENT key highlighted, so this is the key selected by the cursor keys. After pressing the physical key ‘ENT’ you really are pressing the ENT key in the virtualization of the Roma module.

Below screenshots for the Polgar and Tasc are displayed.

Also displayed is the unique speed bar where you can select the Polgar at the original 5 MHz, 10 Mhz or 18 Mhz. Below you see the speed bar in the London emulation. You can choose for the original 16-bit or 32-bit versions and emulate the London at the ultimate 66Mhz Tournament Machines level. These machines were the dream of every chess computer enthusiast.

Development Reflection Module 1
